Life,  Travel

Winter is here!

Well okay, maybe not here just yet BUT we did get to ski this past weekend, which in my book marks the start of winter. My husband and I are avid skiers, have been getting passes for Wildcat Mountain in New Hampshire for the last four years. The ski pass we get each year actually called the Peak Pass, and includes 9 other mountains in the area. We generally ski and Wildcat and Attitash Mountains, as they are in the same area and only about 2 or so hours from our house which makes it great for weekend getaways.

This weekend actually included a few of our favorite things, Friday night we went down to Mohegan Sun in Connecticut for comedian Jim Jefferies, with the hopes of also catching a bit of Maren Morris. We were able to do all of the above and enjoy a great meal. This time around we decided to try Ballo Italian Restaurant a Tuscany inspired restaurant with delicious food and an excellent wine selection.

As my husband and I travel more, and realized the true enjoyment of a long meal, we have noticed it is almost impossible to not be rushed at most restaurants. Its an American thing, in and out as fast as possible, barely time to enjoy the meal or the company of your table mates. Our way around this, it to pull up a seat at the bar. Now I agree, this is harder with more than two people, but even four or six, can often find a high top in the bar area and accomplish the same goal. The goal – control the flow of food, we order appetizers and then later we order meals and then maybe even dessert all while enjoying some drinks. Three maybe four hours later, we are ready to move on.

We tried the meatballs and local Local Judith calamari to start, which were delicious, and perfectly cooked. And since we knew it was going to be a long night and didn’t want to be stuffed, the plan for the main course was to have leftovers. Of course, I stuck to the plan, and ordered the Paparedelle Verde with pork and prosciutto bolognese, it was delicious but I could control myself and took home half. Mark on the other hand, did not, he housed his Tortellini, although I don’t blame him, that was amazing as well.

After a night well spent, enjoying each other company and great food. We got up, made the drive home, a quick loading up of the car and off to New Hampshire. Not that often you can say you skied in October! Hope this is the sign of a great season to come.
